CRUMB in Liverpool

Rewire conference, QED exhibition, and more!University of Sunderland Reader Sarah Cook and Professor Beryl Graham are both participating in a major international three-day, three-strand conference taking place in Liverpool next week. Rewire, The Fourth International Conference on the Histories of Media Art, Science, and Technology is co-chaired by Dr. Cook, and consists of over 150 papers by international scholars working at the forefront of art history. Previous conferences have been hosted in Berlin, Banff Canada, and Sydney.

Professor Graham is presenting a paper and chairing two panels on the history of new media art exhibitions, tying in to research Cook and Graham do at the University through their "CRUMB" curatorial network. The full conference programme is available here: http://www.mediaarthistory.org/?page_id=270.

Rewire will be taking place in partnership with the Foundation for Art and Creative Technology (FACT) - a leading arts venue - and as part of the Abandon Normal Devices Festival, a major platform for digital art experiments and innovation (http://www.andfestival.org.uk).

As if organising and co-chairing the peer-reviewed conference were not enough, Dr. Cook has also curated an exhibition for the Festival of over a dozen international artists whose work challenges our assumptions about the scientific process in a playful manner, including art by robots for robots, visions of outer space, and seemingly impossible mechanical experiments. The exhibition, titled Q.E.D, is to be held alongside the conference at the LJMU Art & Design Academy, opening on September 28.

The final date for purchasing advanced tickets for Rewire is the 25th of September. These can be purchased from the link below. http://rewire2011.eventbrite.com
